BURR RIDGE, Ill., April 2 (UPI) — A dentist’s “Taj,” a huge, ornate mansion in a Chicago suburb, has become a waterlogged, bankrupt mess.

Husam Aldairi’s Villa Taj in Burr Ridge, Ill., has a Jerusalem limestone exterior in a neo-Byzantine Moorish revival style, the Chicago Tribune reports. The interior, done up in Brazilian wood and Italian marble, has nine fireplaces, a soaring ballroom and 20-car garage in the basement.

There has been trouble from the start. Residents who mistakenly believed a mosque was being built complained to authorities. Aldairi says officials forced construction delays.

Then a sexual harassment judgment against one of his associates led to a bankruptcy filing — which a judge rejected as an attempt to evade payment on the harassment claim.

On Thursday the judge ordered Aldairi to pay more than $314,000 for the ex-employee’s legal fees.

This winter pipes exploded in the vacant home and 6 million gallons of water — enough to supply the whole village for three days — soaked the mansion.

An estate once valued at $25 million is now in receivership, and liens against the property exceed $9 million, records show.

But Aldairi, who now works in San Diego, says, “It was meant to be a good thing. It was not meant to insult anybody’s taste.”
