Artist makes ‘die-o-ramas’ of murders

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 10 (UPI) — A Las Vegas artist who makes “die-o-ramas” of murders said orders for her work are coming in faster than she can fill them.

Abigail Goldman, 30, a former crime reporter for the Las Vegas Sun, said she was inspired by the miniature figures performing wholesome activities on a model train Web site, the Las Vegas Sun reported Monday.

“I said, ‘Oh, look at all the little people! Wouldn’t it be fun to have them hacking each other in half?'” Goldman said.

Goldman said her diorama scenes became popular online when her husband posted pictures of the miniatures on Web site Reddit in May and she soon started receiving orders from lovers of grisly art.

Goldman said she has sold 35 of the “die-o-ramas” for $50 to $500 and she has now had to stop taking orders to allow her to catch up with her 22 waiting customers.

The artist said she has been amazed by the reaction to her work.

“When you do something for yourself, you don’t imagine that anyone else would be interested, even your own relatives,” she said. “You don’t tell your in-laws over dinner, ‘I’m really happy with my lumberjack murder diorama. Could you please pass the potatoes?'”

Bacon attack brings 4-month jail term

PITTSFIELD, Mass., Sept. 10 (UPI) — A Massachusetts man who attacked his mother when she berated him for eating too much bacon was sentenced to four months in jail.

Christopher Rougeau, 19, of Pittsfield pleaded guilty Tuesday in Central Berkshire District Court to misdemeanor assault and battery, and felony witness intimidation after police said he grabbed his mother by the throat last December, knocked her on the ground and disabled her phone when she attempted to call for help, the Berkshire (Mass.) Eagle reported Monday.

Pittsfield police said the incident began when Rougeau’s mother yelled at him for eating the bacon she had been saving for later in the week.

Rougeau’s sentence will be served concurrently to a six-month jail sentence he is serving for violating his probation for an assault and battery charge for another attack against his mother in June 2011.

Joseph Colonna, an attorney for Rougeau, said his client has repaired the relationship with his mother.

Port Authority sources told the New York Post the boat sank in rough waters around 4:30 p.m. Sunday while seven officers were in the water training for their water rescue certification. The sources said the boat may have collided with a jetty before sinking.

Two or three of the officers from the boat were briefly hospitalized after the incident, officials said.

The Port Authority said officers will attempt to raise the boat Monday.
