The Department of Defense has identified 2,011 American service members who have died as a part of the Afghan war and related operations. It confirmed the deaths of the following Americans recently:

LEACH, Matthew J., 29, Staff Sgt., Army; Ferndale, Mich.; First Brigade, 104th Training Division.

MASSARELLI, Robert A., 32, Staff Sgt., Army; Hamilton, Ohio; 96th Transportation Company, 180th Transportation Battalion, Fourth Sustainment Brigade, 13th Sustainment Command.

PRASNICKI, Stephen C., 24, First Lt., Army; Lexington, Va.; 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team.

SKALBERG, James L. Jr., 25, Sgt., Army; Cullman, Ala.; First Armored Division.

STRACHOTA, Michael J., 28, Sgt., Army; White Hall, Ark.; 96th Transportation Company, 180th Transportation Battalion, Fourth Sustainment Brigade, 13th Sustainment Command.
